Founded by Max Gunawan in 2012, Lumio began in a small workshop in San Francisco. Founder Max Gunawan did not set out to build a global design brand. He simply wanted to create something beautiful to live with. He designed an object that balanced precise function with unexpected joy. The goal was to bring a sense of magic to the everyday.
DISCOVER LITO (2013)
That first project grew into an award-winning bestseller. It resonated globally because it invited physical interaction. People wanted to touch it, examine it, and smile at it. Today, Lumio objects are found in over 200 retailers across thirty countries. Our pieces live in the Museum of Modern Art and have earned recognition ranging from Cannes Lions to Red Dot Best of the Best.
DISCOVER TENO (2020)The core of Lumio is playful functionality. We exist to bring a human touch back to the objects we use every day. We believe in simplifying your home by owning fewer pieces of higher quality. Good design should do more than just solve a problem. A considered object engages your senses, grounds you in the present moment, and leaves you feeling more human.
DISCOVER OVO (2024)
Now, our journey takes a deliberate step forward. We are expanding into a curated collection of poetic objects and furniture for the entire home. Our living spaces are expected to do more than ever, so our furniture must adapt to the rhythm of daily life. With pieces like the Otto lounge chair, we are designing for your rituals. Otto completely cradles you when you need to rest, then folds into a quiet sculpture with one sweeping motion. We are creating objects to support your quiet moments and designing for the spaces we inhabit.
DISCOVER OTTO (2026)Overheard
FORBES“Lumio certainly is an attention-grabber. People have to touch it, examine it, smile at it. It's that tactile craving that helped build the product into one of the standout retail stories.”
THE NEW YORK TIMES“Lumio introduced their second object that similarly trades in the thrill of the unexpected. Teno will ultimately be successful because people are able to touch and feel it and be surprised.”
GQ“There's something poetic about opening up a book to find a little light and that's why what Lumio does works so well.”
